Hi, I'm Eugen. I built besttimetodive.com to answer the question every dive trip starts with: when should I go?
I got my Open Water certification in July 2026, off Tenerife. Planning what came next, I kept hitting the same wall: every place was "great any time of year", and every forum thread disagreed. So I stopped asking people and started asking the records: sea temperature, swell, wind, rain, storms and the animals, month by month, at the spot where you actually dive.
The ratings come from ten years of that data and every logged sighting, not from my logbook, which is still short.
What it does
Every destination gets a rating for every month, from ten years of sea and weather records and every logged sighting of the animals people travel for. It tells you the best months, the ones to avoid, the wetsuit to pack and what you are likely to see.
Where a place is only worth it for one animal, it says so. Where the calm water and the animals come at different times, it names both, so you can pick.
What it does not do
It does not rate dive shops or sell trips, and it does not know what this year's weather will do. It gives you the long-run pattern, so you book the right month; the operator on the ground tells you about this week.
